ANDREW SCHONEWILLE TAKES OUT ROSEBUD COUNTRY CLUBS CHAMPIONSHIP

Andrew Schonewille has etched his name on the club championship trophy for the first time.

And the victory marks an important achievement for both him and the Rosebud Country Club. Andrew has been a member for a number of years and has developed through the junior program which continues today.

Up against a quality field, Andrew held his nerve to win by two shots from Will Gordon in a thrilling final. Will had led Andrew and Marino Colombo for most of the day during the final round, and looked to have the title wrapped up.

However, he bogeyed at 15 and then Andrew hit an amazing second shot on the Par 5 16th to less than a metre for an eagle. That created a three shot swing. Both players were now equal and they pared 17 and 18 to force a play-off.

Andrew was able to par the two play-off holes while Will could only manage bogeys giving Andrew a win by two shots.

The PDGA Executive and Member Clubs congratulate Andrew on his great win.

ANTHONY MARCHESANI SECURES SCHOLARSHIP IN AMERICA

Anthony Marchesani is preparing to follow in the footsteps of his older brother James. In February, Anthony will be off to the United States to commence his scholarship at Oklahoma City University.

It's the first time two brothers have gone to pursue a career in professional golf at the same institution. Anthony is well known to members at Rosebud and in the Peninsula District. And he'll certainly continue the Marchesani tradition of being a first class ambassador for the Rosebud Country Club and the Peninsula District in general.

Bryden Macpherson wins 2011 British Amateur Title

bryden mcpherson

PART ONE

Twenty-year-old Victorian Bryden Macpherson has won the 2011 British Amateur with a thrilling 3&2 victory over Scotland's Michael Stewart in the 36-hole final played at the Hillside Golf Club, near Southport.

A member at the Peninsula Country Golf Club in Frankston and now domiciled in the US on a College Scholarship, Macpherson becomes only the second Australian after Doug Bachli in 1954 to win arguably the most coveted trophy in amateur golf.

The win also provides an exemption into both the 2011 British Open to be played at Royal St. Georges in July and to the 2012 US Masters at Augusta National next April.

Macpherson grew up in Somers, near Hastings, and played at Devilbend Golf Club before joining Peninsula Country Golf Club when he was 16. He was encouraged to take up golf by his grandfather, Keith, who was a seven-time club champion at Woodlands Golf Club in the 1950s and 60s.

PART TWO

MORNINGTON Peninsula amateur golfer Bryden Macpherson is enjoying a stellar first season of NCAA Division One competition at the University of Georgia.Since arriving in the US in January, Macpherson has been named the South Eastern Conference freshman player of the year, a title usually reserved for players who have had a full season of competition.

The 19-year-old has top finishes of tied 15th, tied 3rd, tied 5th and tied 8th in five events.

Macpherson was a dominant force in Australian amateur golf in 2008 and 2009, but said he needed to push himself in another environment.

James Marchesani is ready to take the next step in his career.

JAMES MARCHESANI

JAMES UNITED STATES BOUND

Talented Rosebud Country Club golfer and pro shop employee James Marchesani has secured a three- year scholarship at Oklahoma City University.

James will finish working for Russell Wilson in mid August and will fly to the United States soon after. The 19-year-old sent out applications to several universities and settled on Oklahoma.

It was the best fit for what I wanted to achieve,” he said.

I’m hoping to use it as a platform to play golf professionally, but I’ll also be doing business studies which will be an important backstop if I don’t go on to playing golf for a living.”

James has won the Rosebud Country Club championship for the past three years. He currently plays off plus two. James joined the club at the age of 11 and like his father Frank and brothers Anthony and Daniel, is a popular member.
