VICTORIAN COUNTRY REGIONS CHAMPIONSHIPS:
Held on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August at Heathcote Golf Club

Our Junior team travelled to Heathcote on Saturday 9th August anticipating a stern test to be able to beat the very good team from Geelong who were defending the title that they won so convincingly last year.
This proved to be the case as after the first round on Saturday Geelong were 17 strokes ahead of us.
At a team meeting on Saturday night, Charlie Sartori the team captain, gave an inspiring address to the team pointing out that all was not lost and the players could make an extreme effort to score better than 80 we would have a good chance of making up the deficit and winning. With this thought in mind the team were very determined and played very well reducing the deficit by 13 strokes leaving a nervous Geelong team to hang on and win by the narrow margin of 4 strokes with the final scores being:

GEELONG DISTRICT 1100 to the PENINSULA DISTRICT 1104

Congratulations and well done not only to the team but also to all boys who were a part of the selection process as all of in some way made a great contribution.

I wish to thank my band of dedicated volunteers for their assistance with transport and other organisational duties in the persons of Peter Molloy (bus driver, organiser of clothing and a myriad of other things) Trevor Roberts, Tyrrell McGeever and Ray Ousley. Thanks also to the parents for transporting the boys to practice venues and pick up points and always being on time which makes the task of organising so much easier.
