WE ARE HEADING BACK TO THE SHIELD IN 2012

After 3 days of tough opposition the PDGA team have finished second to Geelong and because of this we are promoted to the Shield Division in 2012.
The team played some excellent golf and provided us with strong results overall especially at Sanctuary Lakes Resort where we won 12.5 matches out of a possible 14 matches - a top effort from the boys.

DAY ONE - We commenced our campaign at Kooringal Golf Club (which was in terrific condition), but as usual we came away with a halved contest against Corangamite. This is three years in a row that we have not won in the first round.

DAY TWO - saw us out Sanctuary Lakes Resort which was in excellent condition and because it is a 'links style' of course (similar to the Peninsula) we were confident of good results. The boys played exceptional golf throughout the two rounds and came away with the best ever results by a PDGA team on any one day and put us in good order to win the Plate Division on the Friday against Geelong.

DAY THREE - was played on the tight but beautiful Kew Golf Club and we were in for a tough battle. Early on in the contest both teams could not get away and we saw 5 squared matches at the half way point - who was going to breakaway? In the end we managed a halved contest which meant we could not win the Plate.

I would like to thank all personal that were involved in the 2011 campaign - the players, the caddies and support team. It was a team effort and we all should be proud of the final result.

RECENT RESULTS:

HEATHCOTE OPEN AMATEUR - Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th September

The squad ventured up to Heathcote for their Heathcote Open (Ivo Whitton event) on Sunday 11th September. We also entered the Ambrose event on the Saturday afternoon.
In the Ambrose event the PDGA came first and third - the team of Peter O'Dwyer, Andrew Schonewille, Josh Oppy and Trevor Roberts came in with 57 gross and the team of Gary Puddick, Anthony Marchesani, David Dorning, and Ron Craven scored 60 gross.
In the Open event Ryan Fuller came so close to winning with a total gross score of 148 only to be beaten by one stroke overall. - well done Ryan.

PDGA vs CORANGAMITE DISTRICT at SORRENTO - Sunday 4th September

We had our first ever challenge match against the Corangamite District team at Sorrento on Sunday 4th September. We had 9 players on the day. After picking the Corangamite team up from the ferry our matches commenced in light rain which got a little harder, but soon stopped to give us a great day of light winds and sun.
The matches all went without incident and eventually when we did the results and a tie was noted - 4.5 games each. Click the following link for all RESULTS SHEET.

We had 5 players - Gary, Ben (Ivo Event), Anthony, Brian and David not available for this event so our team was not at full strength. We should be able to win over them (Corangamite) in the first round of Country Week at Kooringal Golf Club on Wednesday 5th October.

Thanks go to Sorrento Golf Club who provided their wonderful course for us and the hospitality afterwards. Well done.


PORTSEA OPEN AMATEUR - Friday 26th September to Sunday 28th September

After four rounds of the Portsea Open Amateur with 10 of our 11 CW squad members making the cut - 161. Best score in was Nathan Holman (Woodlands) - 139.

Final scores are as follows: Peter O'Dwyer -289 (2nd), Marino Colombo - 297 (9th), David Dorning - 299 (12th), Ryan Fuller - 305 (23rd), Ben Rogers - 311 (35th), Gary Puddick - 311 (35th), Andrew Schonewille - 321 (44th), Damien Wiseley - 321 (44th), Josh Oppy - 311 (35th), Anthony Marchesani - 311 (35th). Missed the cut - Will Gordon - 166.

Well done to all players - this was our best ever result form Portsea.
