---2007 COUNTRY WEEK - after the event

CAPTAIN'S VIEW
This year the Peninsula country week team took on a new look. With Bob Bright our new President, my first year as Captain and four new players, we set out to win our eighth shield in nine years.
With Bryden McPherson the runnerup in the Country Championships held on the Monday and Tuesday prior to the teams event, it had the team looking forward to a successful week.
After a good start in very windy conditions at Victoria Golf Club, a 4.5 to 4.5 draw against Bendigo and a 5 to 4 win against Goulburn Valley put us in a good position going into Day Two at Keysborough Golf Club. With the wind still howling, the guys played excellently in the morning match, beating Ballarat 6.5 to 2.5, but we stumbled in the afternoon going down to Geelong 6 to 3.
On the final day at Commonwealth we drew 4.5 to 4.5 against South Gippsland, eventually finishing equal 3rd overall behind Geelong and Shield winners Goulburn Valley. I would like to thank the players for their efforts on a tough week in difficult conditions - well done.
I look forward to working with Bob and the team again next season and bringing home the Country Week Shield for the ninth time.

THANK YOU
This year saw the retirement of PDGA stalwarts Tony Clarke, Ray Ousley and long serving player and past captain Marino Colombo (Rosebud) (pictured below).
At a post event meeting, PDGA President Bob Bright said “their dedication to the team and the district has had a huge influence on the success of Peninsula over many years. I thank them for all their efforts, not only in the past, but especially this year”.
Captain Dean Baker also thanked them all for their help and support for both himself and Bob Bright in their new roles. We wish them all the best for the future.
